Walks & Waterfalls

For those of us that enjoy walking, there is plenty of opportunity to take to the highlands on foot. Here at Minard Cottage, we find it very relaxing taking a stroll around some of our local sites, including Beauly Priory, Craig Phadrig, Whinn Park and Ness Islands. Clava Cairns of outlander fame also stars in our top 6 of favourite walks.

Why not take in Foyers, Plodda or Rogie Waterfalls – which form part of 3 walks, all within 25-30mins drive from your cottage, here in Inverness

Why not take a walk along the shores of Loch Ness, or board a famous mini-cruise, with Jacobite Cruises.

Other towns / areas to visit for a day out include Aviemore, Kingussie, Beauly, Ullapool, Nairn, The Black Isle, Isle of Skye.

Visit Aviemore

Why not visit Aviemore, and take a trip on the Strathspey Steam Railway to Broomhill – also known as Glenbogle, and home to Monarch of the Glen series. And for all those whisky drinkers amongst us, we have several Whisky Distilleries to choose from all, offering a tasting sessions of Scotland most-loved tipple – with or without the water.

For something different, why not enjoy a relaxing ride up Cairngorms Mountain Railway with lunch at the Ptarmigan – the highest UK restaurant, we truly believe you are really going to spoilt for choice.

Keen sports enthusiasts can practice their swing and take on the challenging Spey Valley Golf Course or opt for the many other courses located in and around the area.

There are also options for Quad-biking (Aviemore & Laggan), Fishing, Mountain Biking, Watersports (Loch Insh) as well as Shooting, Ski-ing and Walking/Climbing but to name a few.
